This unit covers standards for grades 4-6.
The goal of TouchMath Upper Grades Unit 10: Pre-Algebra is to extend understanding of number?relationships so students have a firm foundation for more complex processes in math. The unit?focuses on developing strategies and language to stretch students?? critical thinking skills through?integrating and deepening previously learned concepts.
A discussion of algebra??what it means, who uses it, why it is used, and how it is used??opens the?unit. Each of the seven modules includes guided practice with concrete and visual models, following?the TouchMath philosophy of moving from the pictorial to the abstract in small steps to ensure?success at every level. The modules are Operations, Ratio, Rational Numbers, Expressions, Variables,?Patterns, and Geometry.
The unit addresses students with disabilities by providing multiple instructional supports for learning,?including step by step instruction, visual cues, meaningful repetition, and clearly defined strategies?throughout the various topics.
When students complete this unit, they will have a greater understanding of the relationships of?number concepts and their real-world importance.
