This unit covers standards for grades 3-6.
The goal of TouchMath Upper Grades Unit 9: Geometry, Measurement, and Data is to ensure success?and familiarity with more advanced levels of previously learned concepts and with new concepts that?contribute to the basis for statistics and pre-algebra.
The new concepts are presented within a framework of familiar language and examples that?demonstrate the relationship of the new to the previously learned skills. Geometry, measurement,?and data each include relationships of the concepts and application of operations. Each of the three?topics is evident in real world applications that provide relevance for the learners.
Each of the eight modules provides sound presentation, guided practice, meaningful repetition, and?application of the concepts to develop a strong foundation. The approach follows the TouchMath?philosophy of moving from the pictorial to the abstract level, including small steps to ensure?proficiency with computation and application. The modules are 2-D Shapes; Lines and Angles;?Classification of 2-D Figures; Perimeter, Area, and Volume; Time, Money, and Distance; Units?of Measure; Data Representation; and Data Analysis. Multiple choice and true/false questions?with bubble answers are incorporated. Reviews include matching, written answers, creating?representations of data, and other engaging activities.
The unit addresses students with disabilities by providing multiple instructional supports for learning,?including step-by-step instruction and visual cues throughout the various topics in the unit.
